The next EU funded flagship research programme, Framework Progarmme 9 (FP9) will replace the successful Horizon 2020 where the UK is only second to Germany in the number of project participants and funding.
A recent article by the CBI stated that it would be extremely difficult to replicate the scale and the number of projects involved in Horizon 2020 if Brexit had a negative impact on funding from the EU for such projects.
The figures revealed showed that since 2015 the UK received 3.9b euros in funding with UK businesses receiving 780 million euros of that pot.
Already some SME's have started to cut back research plans due to the uncertainty of being able to access further grants from FP9.
Only if the government is clear in its intention to associate with FP9 will businesses be more confident in laying out future palns for research and innovation projects to further growth and place them in a strong position in an increasingly competitive environment.
We look forward to Staffordshire Moorlands businesses being able to access funding for their development projects in the future post-Brexit.
